Cheap Christmas Gifts

Cheap Christmas Gifts

Subject: Cheap Christmas Gifts

Hi ladies, Every year I make ornaments and small presents to pass out everywhere I go. This year there isn't very much money because I missed too many days at work because I was sick.
I'm hoping I can get lots of ideas from you wonderful ladies on nice cheap gifts I can pass out. I was just reading another post about the hershey kiss whisk. I thought that was just darling. Now all I have to do is find mini whisks.
I also am making snowman soup. Putting everything in a cello bag, tying a poem and a little snowman ornament I made on it.
Here's the site where I found the poem if anyone is interested.
http://breezeb.tripod.com/crafts/giftid ... nsoup.html

I've also crochet many victorian candy cane covers. They came out beautiful.
Last year my daughter and myself passed out christmas pins everywhere we went. If was fun to see the surprise on a persons face from getting a little something from a customer who just wanted to say Merry Christmas.
If anyone has any ides please let me know. The only things I don't care for are the poop gifts.
Many Thanks to Everyone.

Great Ideas ladies. I can't pass out food to people I don't know well though. I wouldn't accept food from someone I didn't know well. You just never know in this day and age.

[> Re: Cheap Christmas Gifts -- jenjoy, 20:45:45 12/07/03 Sun [1]

The dollar tree is a great place to check for items (whisks, etc).
I am buying inexpensive votive candles and putting the following poem with it:
When the Christmas season passes
With its mistletoe and pine
Light a candle in the window
So its tiny flame can shine
A reminder of the Christmas Star
Whose constant brilliant glow
Led the wise men to the Christ Child
So many years ago
Christmas glitter soon grows tarnished
But Christ's light will never dim
Let the charity He taught us
Radiate from deep within
Light a candle in the window
Never let it fade away
Keep it burning just as brightly
As it was on Christmas Day!
(author? unknown)

good luck with your gifts!

Maybe a poinsetta flower pen, very inexpensive and simple to make
Or even a tea bag placed in a printable tea bag holder:

Hope these help!

[> Re: Cheap Christmas Gifts -- Mad Mary, 23:13:11 12/08/03 Mon [1]

Someone came up with the idea of filling the center of cookie cutters with fudge and wrapping in celophane and tying with ribbon.

microwave rice heating bags (I've seen toe socks filled with rice and it's very cute) add rice bag poem and instructions

homemade biscotti, dip half the biscotti in white chocolate, put 6 of them in a big dollar store mug with a couple envelopes of cappacino or latte mix. Wrap in celophane.

I'm burning my own CD's of Christmas music, I designed the jewel case insert myself using cute graphic and fonts found on the web.

fill the bottom of quart size small mouthed canning jars with stuff like pottpori, Christmas decrorations, or beach sand and shells, slip a glass pot votive cup holder in the mouth and tie a rafia bow or gingham ribbon around the jar neck. Wrap 8 tea lights by stacking them ontop of one another and wrap in celophane, twist and tie ends.

Try some of the gifts in jar websites, for yummy layered recipes in jars.

[> Re: Cheap Christmas Gifts -- J, 15:59:18 12/10/03 Wed [1]

Mad Mary's post reminded me of a few more ideas:
Almost anything chololate dipped.
Licorice dipped in milk or white chocolate & rolled in crushed rice crispies or nuts.
Oreos dipped 1/2 in white chololate & rolled in red or green sprinkles.
Pretzles rods dipped 1/2 way in chocolate & rolled in almost anything (nuts, colored sugar, sprinkles[jimmies], mini marshmellows, etc)
lady fingers dipped in chocolate & nuts
apples on stick dippe dn chocolte & rolled in nuts etc...

Little tart cases (or a big one). Melt a block of white chocolate (microwave 1 minute) stir in a carton of sour cream - mixing well. Pour into case and refrigerate for an hour or so to firm - decorate top with strawberries and grated chocolate (flake bars work well). Wrap in cellophane and voila a gift is made. Everyone seems to love these. Heres a pic of one I made for a birthday gift. Sue :)

Thanks for the link Marti. Some great ideas, especially if you use the 24kt gold you can get at Family Dollar. Really pretty shiny finish. Hugz, Dianenanato5

Thanks for sharing that neat site with us, Marti! It's NEVER too early to be thinking of Christmas!
I have one more tip for using gold spray paint, seen in a restaurant gift shop. Inside the clear glass display cases offering watches, bracelets, and such, they had spread pounds and pounds of ordinary dried pinto beans that had been well coated with gold spray paints, and they honest-to-goodness looked like gold nuggets until closer inspection! That was one of the most clever displays I've ever seen!

[> Re: Maybe I'm Rushing the Season, But.... -- Linda Ohio now GA, 23:15:46 07/22/05 Fri [1]

Twinklenose....thanks for telling us about the beans sprayed gold. Now what ideas could we come up with for a little gold nugget? Slip it into a small zippered plastic bag with a tiny topper. Could it be a gift from a leprechaun? Could it be a "Friendship nugget" because your friendship is more valuable than gold? Come on poets....we need some poems....and come on gals that are so good at creating bag toppers. Let's run with this idea.

[> Re: Maybe I'm Rushing the Season, But.... -- Doreen, 06:00:10 07/23/05 Sat [1]

Thanks Marti for the link ... I think I'll be getting into the Christmas spirit early this year!

Thanks for the dried pinto beans idea, twinklenose.

Linda here are some poems for the gold nuggets, maybe someone can come up with toppers for them...

Here's a friendship nugget
'Cause I value you more than gold
Hope we'll both cherish our friendship
Till we get to be very old.
Doreen Scerri © 2005

A friendship nugget
A symbol of gold
Our friendship I'll treasure
As we grow old.

Archiver's Note: The idea and poems for Gold Friendship Nuggets will also be posted separately on the Poems Board since you could use these any time of the year.

YO YO TREES

Date Posted: 00:49:07 09/18/05 Sun
Author: Debora Hughes
Subject: **YO YO TREES**

Hi Everyone:
Thought some of you might like these yo yo trees. SOOOO
Cute. I am going to make some.

http://cddesigns.com/AfternoonProj/YoYo/tree.htm

Cheers
~Debora~

[> [> Re: **YO YO TREES** -- Debora Hughes, 22:58:55 09/18/05 Sun [1]

Nope, tried it cathy, you can see the picture but when
you click on instructions, message "Page not Found" comes
up, so to all of you that would like the instructions

You will need, scrap Christmas fabric, embroidery thread,
fiber stuffing or quilt batting

You need 7 yoyo's , sizes as follows

Small Tree=3"tall
1"
1 1/2"
2"
2 1/2"
3"
3 1/2"
4"

Medium Tree = 5"tall
2"
3"
4"
5"
6"
7"
8"

Large Tree = 10" tall
3"
4 1/2"
6"
7 1/2"
9"
10 1/2"
12"

Make 7 Yo Yo's in the sizes of fabric circles indicated
of the tree you want to make. You can use assorted or
the same fabric. Before completely gathering up the
fabric, leave enough of a hole to stuff a little stuffing
inside. Then gather up the fabric and tie off as you do
with a normal yo yo.
String the yo yo's together with embrodery thread.
Pull the embrodery thread and tie a knot at the top.
Add a star button.
You can decorate your tree with beads or any small trinkets.
Strung beads make a great garland.

Enjoy
~Debora~

[> Re: **YO YO TREES** -- Marti in Mexico, 08:38:43 09/19/05 Mon [1]

The instructions are in .PDF format. You need Adobe Acrobat Reader (a free download) on your computer to open the file. Here's a link to the free download:

Cute trees, and in three different sizes, too!
