TFS I'm thinking of modifying for simple body that uses minimal fabric so I can make them to give for trick or treaters. Last year I made special large cookies. The children and the parents were so appreciative that I am willing to put some time into something for them. We had about 2 dozen kids. So the yoyo bodies would be too labor intensive for that many owls.

Sorry, I've never seen a free pattern if you are referring to a style like the Yo-Yo "Al" Owl sewing pattern that you have to purchase. However, Sherron once shared a link with a photo of an owl using yo-yos in a different style. No instructions available but you could experiment a little to get the right sizes. Here's the archived post with that link...
