Subject: ISO: specific vocabularies......

It's not that I meant to be mysterious, but I really don't know how to explain what I am looking for.

Are there places on line, that have words relating to a certain subject, & what would you call it? For example, let's say I was wanting to write a punny paragraph about gardening. Words or phrases related to gardening:
...spade, seeds, trowel, hose, flowers, blooms, vegetables, bees, bugs, warm sunshine, brown earth, compost, weeding, rain, watering can, shade, etc.

Or boating: sails, winds, waves, barnacles, keel, hull, etc.

Sometimes those 'word search' puzzle books have categories like that.

I just thought it would make adapting signs, cards, etc. easier, like the request for a sign to go on a library door: reading in progress; the reading express has taken off; etc.

Does this make any sense? *grin*

I can't explain this very well , but I will try. If you copy and paste into my documents, click on a word, highlight that word, a menu will come up with synonyms for that word. Hope this helps.

That's another good idea, maryp. I will experiment with it later.

It's really difficult to explain what I am after; for example 'firemen' - words & phrases associated with them.
firetruck, hoses, emergencies, heat, flames, too hot to handle, etc.

Every job has its own vocabulary - computer, sewing factory, teacher, military, etc. I thought there might be some where I could search & make lists concerning specific terms, etc.

Another example: horses - tack, saddles, horseshoe, bridle, reins, gallop, canter, mane, giddyup, whoa!, trot, stable, hay, etc.

I could have sworn that I responded earlier to Crystal & lisajo, but the response is not here. Thanks again for the info.

Pookie, I checked out the links you posted - very interesting!

Now I have several options when writing about something specific. I just didn't know what to look for. You gave me some good food for thought. [[[hugs]]]
