Subject: Friend needs ideas for his thrift store

A friend of ours needs some fresh, new (for him) ideas for moving merchandise.

--fill a bag for a buck
--anything red (for instance) a quarter
--dishes 10 cents
What ideas can you suggest? What kinds of sales do your local thrift stores have?

A thrift store gives a near us give a discount to senior citizens on Mondays. Another one does the same but on Wednesday.
They also have specials every day of the week by using different colors of tags on their items and every day is a different color tag getting the discount. They post the list on the day and find that people looking for say
clothes come on the day that color tag is on special.
I hope you get more ideas.

Thanks so much for responding, ladies. This guy is only open every other weekend, Friday & Saturday. The discounts & colored tags would be great ideas if he were open during the week. (((hugs)))

Maybe once a month on a specified day, he could give a senior discount of 10% off everything.
Hugs,
Lori Jean

Maybe instead of the colored tag having a discount, he can give a discount if you are wearing a certain color. Put a sign in the store and you can change the color daily. So one day if you are wearing red you get 10% discount and another yellow.
Or dollar days pick 3 or 4 random numbers and post them. If the customer can show you a dollar bill with those numbers in the same order on the serial number of the bill they get an item at a deep discount or 50% off their entire purchase etc.

Maybe he could have some kind of junkers show & tell. People can show off what they've done with thrift store finds. You know how quilt guilds have show & tell and the members show what project they are working on. Maybe some of his regulars would like to show off their projects and inspire folks to shop for stuff too!

I saw low shelves of bins of small toys with a bag dispenser and sign saying 5 for $1. A little guy knew the routine. Walked right up, pulled out a bag, and busied himself picking out his 5 toys.
