Here is my small tree (18 inches) which I have decided to keep out for all year...I hope to decorate it for special occasions throughout the seasons...I don't think you can see it clearly but the tags I made on the computer are hanging by a small wire hanger I made for each tag inserting it in a hole on each side and securing it by wrapping the wire around a pencil to make a spiral. Each tag was printed using a fonts of 97 and then decorated with glitter glue and I also added the tag on the tree trunk.
I will be decorating it for Valentine's next...I am making different hearts. Please let me know what you think and maybe also give me some ideas for decorating it.
Hugs, Doreen

Great IDEA!
Besides decorating it for the holidays .. Christmas.. Valentines..St. Pat's.. Easter and so on, you could decorate it for your birthdays and anniversaries too by putting tiny photos of the birthday boy or girl. Well this is just one other idea.
Hugs,
Susan.

Really nice, Doreen and I love the variety of your ornaments. Sounds like a lot of year-round fun. Makes me want to dig out an old small tree I haven't used in a few years. Hope you'll share future occasions with us too. You might make an ornament or two each time with some of the poems you've written for holidays and special occasions over the years.

Hi and thanks everyone for your comments and ideas, I love every one of them. Glad my tree has been inspirational.

Deb I don't have pets but mine is on top of a wallunit, is that safe enough or does your cat climb everywhere?

Sue hmmm, an edible display, little Easter eggs, now you got my mind thinking again! I really have to come up with something now, maybe even mini packets, chocolates, everyone's favs on their birthdays, etc. : )

Grrlsmom I think I will use the graphics on this page (may have to be resized) for St. Pat's Day.

Hey Sis I love the birthday and anniversary idea, very original! I hope you are feeling better from your cold/cough Sue.

Carolyn I think your ornament and poem idea is great : )

Linda Ohio now Ga I think I got the idea initially from your having a tree all year round and Linda (Huskerfan) I am sure you will love having one too, probably you will have so many stitched ornaments on yours !

Any more ideas?!
If anyone puts up a similar tree, please share a pic or two!

Hugs and Blessings to all,
Doreen

Darling idea, Doreen. I know you have Jan & Feb covered, but here is a list I had saved:

These would be so cute made from fabric or felt:

Jan - snowflakes, snowmen, fortune cookies

Feb - hearts, lips, X&Os,

Mar - shamrocks, clovers, horseshoes (for good luck)

Easter - brown felt bunnies, feathers, tiny baskets

Spring - tiny flowers, bird nests, birds, old jewelry

May - hats for Mother's Day, flowers, tiny cups & saucers

June to Aug - sun, sunglasses, tiny flipflops, bathing suits, sea shells, drift wood, sail boats, fish, bugs, popsicles, ice cream cones,

Sep - school-related things

Oct - bats, ghosts, witch hats, jack-o-lanterns, cats, candy corn

Nov - leaves, acorns, owls, nuts

Dec - the sky is the limit here

Other occasions:
Birthday - a. picture of birthday person, tiny party hats, party horns, confetti streamers
b. picture of each person with their date, to celebrate all at one time

Wedding - doves, rings, white flowers, tiny church

Anniversary - picture of the couple, make how many years they have been married from felt, tiny gifts

Your country - flags, mini banner garlands, things that are particular to your country (animals, landmarks, etc)

Color - pick your favorite & decorate the tree with everything that color

Your favorite things - decorate with things that are important to you

Themed - scrapangels, stars, gingerbread, prim, yoyos, dolls,

Ances-tree - pictures of grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.

The trees can be spray-painted, if you wanted it a different color; ex - red or pink for Valentines's, etc.

Fillers - bouquets of flowers, bows, garlands

Paper - punched things, garlands, recycled Christmas cards, origami

Doreen, I have posted your idea on my blog , thanks for your "go ahead". I added how to replace the small tree if we don't have one, I hope you don't mind.
I also made some hang tags for the tree for Valentines which anyone can download here:

Subject: ? about "holiday trees"

Hello everyone,
Due to the amount of time I am spending in hospital with
my hubby and needing something I can do with my hands - I'm
planning to do a holiday tree for our home and not quite
sure what I'm doing.

I love working with felt so I'm planning to make most of
the ornaments from that, with a few other things added here
and there. However I'm not sure which holidays you
decorate for and what sort of things do you use.

The Christmas one is pretty well done, mostly with snowmen,
iciles, blue glittered snowflake ribbon bows and blue
lights.

Next I would assume that Valentines Day would be the next one to do -
I was thinking Cupid teddy bears, hearts and
flowers (ie:roses)- all in pinks and reds - including red
lights - does that sound fairly cute?

Well, what next????

Oh, I have made a covering cloth for the table with the
words " To everything there is a season."- embroideried on
it - thought that was appropiate...Maybe to hokey???

Any and all thoughts, ideas and suggestions will be greatly
appreciated!

HUGS and Happy Holidays - Jude

These are mainly Christmas type ornaments...but I'm sure you could adapt them for other uses...I've made loads of them & they are all handmade no need for a sewing machine.

Wonderful idea. I wish I had the space...LOL!!! Don't forget New Year...with new year babies...resolutions...sparkles and sparklers...
St pattys day...4th of july...and memorial day...
You could make felt letter and stuff them to say the holiday and spread across the tree also...I don't know am I helping at all?????? Sounds like fun.

St. Patrick's Day with all the Irish motifs, Easter, spring, Mother's Day, family birthdays, harvest ...

All kinds of fabric, felt, and paper flower ideas are showing up now, and they would be pretty for seasonal holidays. Picture ornaments and mementos for birthdays, anniversaries, graduation, prom, and any family occasions.

Jude, that is a great idea! I do that. I have kept all my swaps from previous years and put them on my little tree. We had a year round swap one time and use those. Even the theme ones we did such as back to school, summer, 4th of July major holidays ect. Some of the swaps were pins so just added the little hangers for the tree. The best thing to do is since it's Christmas get the garland now, or if you have a dollar tree, every holiday you can find tons to decorate the tree with. Good luck. I'd love to see your tree every month.
Yes, Val day is next but if you have kiddos, you can do little silhouettes. Or possibly, like we do for January, our big tree gets decorated for New years and I put all our paper hats and blowers on there, with the 2010 glasses for your eyes. It was pretty cool. Then when that was done, we decorated with all football stuff to celebrate the super bowl. My kids love that! I get some stuff from the party stores but do make most of the ornies myself, just the garlands and fun things for the kiddos are store bought and attached to the tree.
Have fun!
