Probably a dumb question, but I have to ask. What is a pirate's jar?

What you put in them depends on what they are for. If the are for a certain person you try to put in small things that fit the person. (like a hair stylist you would use charms or Barbie sized combs, brushes, blow dryers etc.
I've seen them done for christmas with mini ornaments.
Go to the Archives and do a serch for treasure jars and you will get lots of ideas and poems

They are glass jars you put small objects in and fill with birdseed or some some other filler and the people shake the jars looking to find all the "treasures". as they come to the side . You leave a bit empty at the top so you can shake and move the contents around.
Given with a poem it's sorta a game or mind relaxer.
And no it's not a dumb question, only way to find out something is to ask.
They are usally called Treasure Jars

Ok, these sound like fun. What items do you put in them? How big and what kind of jar do you use? How do you decorate the jar? Where's the poems? How much do these sell for? And last question.....does anyone have a picture to share?
Thanks,
Kathy in TN

P.S. My home computer is down and I'm having to check the board at work......shhhhhhhhhhhh, don't tell anyone. lol

There are no dumb questions on this site, only a search for knowledge,
I think there was a verse about a pirate & treasure?

Items To Put In The Jar

Pirate Jars

Some pirates got it all mixed up

And did things the wrong way 'round.

They put their treasure in the jar,

And buried the map in the ground.

Their treasure was some silly stuff,

Like nuts and screws and beads.

Then dear old Polly Parrot

Added all her extra seeds.

So find the 40 items here,

No two are quite the same.

Don't open up the jar, though,

As that would spoil the game.

How about things from the craft store, like minis of things around the house... clothes pin, soother, dice, drums, shovels, the items are endless. You could also add things like confetti in the shape of things, you can get those in the kids craft isle like animals or people. You could also add laminated pictures of people they would know or the number squares from those slidey loot bag puzzle things.. lol KWIM? or small blocks with letters. Or small pompoms.

Pirate Jar Poems

Subject: JAN re alternate ending or verse pirate jar

A PIRATE JAR
The pirates were acting careless
They left their treasure in plain view
While they were laughing and telling jokes
I slipped in and took their loot
Trinkets of all sorts of pirate things
Are hidden in this jar of sand
Find and name the 40 objects
Oh, you can do it, I'm sure you can
© 2004 lou buffkin

In plain sight I saw the treasure
I was surprised to see it there
This was very unusual because
Pirate treasure now is indeed rare
The pirates were asleep and snoring
The shovels laying there still new
They had buried their stuff in the sand, sort of
Sand in this jar that I couldn't refuse
I grabbed it and ran before the pirates awoke
Now I want to share it with you
You don't need a shovel to dig up the treasure
Turn the jar around and around and
The objects will come into view
