We call those bars Fake "Almond Roca"
I add about a 1/2 - 1 tsp of Watkins Carmel Extract and Watkins Vanilla. Then it really gets the Almond Roca flavor.

Ida Mae called hers: "Heath Bars"
Line buttered jelly roll pan (use edged pan) with (40) saltine soda crackers. Boil 1 cup margarine and 1 cup brown sugar for 3 minutes. Pour over crackers. On top of this, sprinkle 1 cup nuts. Have oven heated to 375 degrees F. Remove pan after 6 or 7 minutes, after the crackers float. Remove pan from oven; sprinkle with a 12 ounce package of milk chocolate chips. Spread chips with melted. Cut into squares.

I found two in the archives - If they aren't what you remember, I'll look through a few cookbooks. I know that I've seen recipes calling for saltines in some of my Gooseberry Patch cookbooks.
Look maybe one-fourth the way down the page:
Cindy's Homemade Heath Bars
Scroll down until you see:

Hello Addy - My family has been making these for a long time and they are a great hit. My daughter, who will be 28 on January 17th (oops, just gave you guys a clue to how old I might be:>), was given this recipe in middle school and the name on her recipe was called cracker candy
. It is really like toffee bars. It is always a big hit-easy to make-and makes a great gift. I always line my jelly pan with reynolds wrap...line the whole pan with saltine crackers...cook the margarine (butter) and sugar...pour this over the crackers...bake in oven...remove and allow to cool just a little bit, but not to much, because you are going to pour a bag of chocolate chips over the crackers and as they soften spread with a knife...I then sprinkle finely chopped pecans on the top. I allow it to cool completely...then we do not cut, but break it into pieces. This is a very good item to bag and put them in a valentine milk carton, etc. - They are so yummy!!!!!!

Thank you sooooo much Joy, crafterwannabe and Janice for your help. That's what I wanted! I love trying new recipes, especially dessert and snacks. I go to several pitch-in dinners and prepare snacks for a couple of hospitality rooms for my husbands organization, and like to have new and different things. I can't taste the things I make (a lot of food allergies)so my husband and friends are my test subjects. I can't seem to figure out the archive board yet to find what I'm looking for. Thank you crafterwannabe for all your trouble of looking it up for me. I'll catch on someday. Thanks again you guys are great.
