I use decal sheets by Avery, white or clear - available at any stationary store and even WalMart sometimes....another one is waterslip decals

Didn't someone mention they used Mod Podge to stick a cardstock print on the tile, then used it over the print too?

[> Re: How Do I -- cj, 05:03:42 04/08/06 Sat [1]

You can also print on full sheet sticker paper. Laminate, and cut and stick to tile.

[> Re: How Do I -- Shirttails, 06:53:31 04/08/06 Sat [1]

I used the U Create It Sheets (Gloss Sheets)....10 to a package. I print on it (It comes out glossy like a photo) and just stick it on a tile. I don't even add anything on the top.

thanks as I had wonder about the same thing. There are so many cute tiles here.
I just love them...and I can think of so many to give one to.

Making Pins Using Small Tiles & More General Discussion on How to Finish

I just thought of this. The tiles/magnets especially the cancer ones would make great laminated pins to wear.

Mary, I made pins from the small tiles last year. I laminated them and added a pink ribbon to the back, then the pin .I made a couple for friends and then had an order for 3 dozen more from a team that was in the Run for the Cure rally.

Re: Idea for the small magnets/Tiles -- maureen, 12:19:04 05/09/06 Tue [1]

When making small magnets. Do you laminate the back and front then glue on to magnet or is it possible to just laminate front of picture.
Maureen

Re: Idea for the small magnets/Tiles -- PattyWV, 12:56:56 05/09/06 Tue [1]

Maureen I saw a post, someone had said they printed two of them on sticker paper.
Cut them out,and placed back to back, before peeling the backs off.
I think to prevent slipping I'd use some double face tape between them.
Run it through the laminator.
Trim to separate the sections.
Then peel away the backing and apply to the front of your tile.
This way you can laminate only the fronts two at a time.
I hope this helps.

Re: Idea for the small magnets/Tiles -- Judy R, 01:59:28 05/11/06 Thu [1]

I am finding that the tiles work better if you don't laminate them, but print on sticker paper, then spray with sealer. I use a matte finish, and they look really nice. Also for hangers, especially for the 6x6 and 8x8 tiles, I use the snap caps from soda cans, and just glue them to the back with E-600. I have used them on cork and place mat backing, and even on felt, and they really hold tight. Just be sure to use the E-6000 in a well ventilated room or outside. It is toxic. I have a show tomorrow, and I set up tonite, I have 75 tiles hanging on grid racks, and several large ones on easels. Wish me luck, because if they don't sell, I will have to tile my bathroom and kitchen with them. lol Hugs, Judy R
I almost forgot, for the hangers, I just bend the tabs a little bit so they will be easy to hang, and not be flush against the back of the tile.

Re: Idea for the small magnets/Tiles -- jacksmum, 02:06:08 05/11/06 Thu [1]

I don't cut them out until AFTER they have been through the laminator that way the stick sides don't move at all. Trim edges to seperate sheets, cut out tiles and then remove the sticky label and place laminated project onto tiles. Sue

Hobby Lobby has the cork in sheets. I think they also have it cut in Circles and Squares back in the kid's section of the crafts. Happy hunting. Kathy

I've seen it a Lowe's it comes in sheets. Not sure how much it costs?

[> [> Re: where do I find cork board for tiles? -- doreeng, 10:09:07 06/19/06 Mon [1]

I don't have a hobby lobby around me, never heard of it.
But I do have a lowes, thanks for letting me know. How do you cut the cork?

[> Re: where do I find cork board for tiles? -- Jesslynn, 10:09:36 06/19/06 Mon [1]

I use those little felt pads. I can get like 80+ at Lowe's for like $3. I wonder if cork is less expensive. Hmmm.

[> Re: where do I find cork board for tiles? -- KrafteeKaren, 11:43:00 06/19/06 Mon [1]

Doreeng...our Walmart carries them, you can get it by the roll or you can get 6 (I think) of the thicker small ones, which you don't have to cut much of them off to use them for the tiles. I couldn't tell you right off the top of my head how much they are though.
Hugs

[> Re: where do I find cork board for tiles? -- Shirttails, 11:59:25 06/19/06 Mon [1]

Corkboard that is 1/8 inch thick or so can be cut with scissors or exacto knife.

[> Re: where do I find cork board for tiles? -- Claudia, 13:10:27 06/19/06 Mon [1]

I bought cork in a roll at Lowe's...don't remember the cost, but it is thicker - maybe 1/4 inch and kind of hard to cut really straight.

I just saw cork at Walmart in the office section and a roll was $7 - something...It was thinner, maybe 1/8" thick and I think it would be easier to cut. I don't remember how long the roll was, but it was about 2ft wide. You can get a lot of tile backs out of a roll.

I use liquid nails in a tube (also from Walmart in the hardware/plumbing section} for gluing it down. It sticks easily and doesn't take long to adhere to the tile.
Hugs,
Claudia

The thicker cork board can be cut on a Band Saw or a Scroll Saw, that's what DH uses and it works great.

I buy mine by the roll at Hobby Lobby. It's $13.00 a roll but I wait until they have a 40% off coupon to buy it.
It come in two different sizes, thick ot this. I prefer the thin

Display Stands for Tiles

Date Posted: 13:04:37 09/17/06 Sun
Author: MertVnWV
Subject: Display stands (help) for 4 X 4 tiles

I am in need of finding the display stand for the 4 X 4 tiles. I don't have a drill for making the holes to hang them so I have to go with the stands. Is there a site on the internet that sales them in bulk? I need at least 50. I would consider making the ones that are made with a dinner fork. If someone has the link for the directions on doing it with the forks would you post it please or email it to me? I had it saved but due to a virus a few months ago I lost everything.
TIA,
Mert

Re: Display stands (help) for 4 X 4 tiles -- Betty F from MO, 13:32:59 09/17/06 Sun [1]

I use the 3 prong drapery hook bent as shown in the archives. I also used a metal hanger and bent it in a shape to hold it. I'll try to find the instuctions for the drapery hook. I use two per tile.

Re: Display stands (help) for 4 X 4 tiles -- Shirttails, 13:54:32 09/17/06 Sun [1]

I don't have a source, but I made the tile pictures and then mounted them on a cheap coaster from the dollar store. There were 6 in a package for $1. I just had to punch holes thru their cardboard side and the cork side. The Dollar Tree had these in with the kitchen towels in a clear plastic case. These were ever so easy to make and oh, so light. Just thought I'd pass this info on.

Thanks so much to everyone who responded to this post.
Believe it or not I am working on the favors for next year's family reunion which will be in May 2007. I made one just the other day; my first tile. I am mounting the "Vance" family crest onto the tiles. Will be printing out a sheet for everyone to go along with the family crest tiles as each thing on the crest represents something.
Betty, your idea sounds easy enough.
Shirttails, what a neat coaster idea. Those would make great gifts.
Roberta, That is the fork that I was talking about. I like those....it's just wondering if I could master that crimping with the tines but I really don't think it would be hard.
Hey! I like that easel idea.
I am liking this tile thing so now I have different ideas on how to make them stand. I am going to make some of the tiles; "Some do Jane Fonda, I do Sara Lee"; Judy sent me what she designed for doing these on the tiles.
Thanks a bunch,
Mert

Re: Display stands (help) for 4 X 4 tiles -- Shirttails, 15:44:08 09/17/06 Sun [1]

Whoa! I used the coasters in place of the tile. I still made them hanging. You would have to treat your photo with something in order to use it for a coaster. I just saw the coasters were the same size, lighter to carry, and something easy for me to do.

Re: Display stands (help) for 4 X 4 tiles -- sara, 16:19:49 09/17/06 Sun [1]

Thanks for sharing your ideas for the stands. That has always held me back because I coudn't come up with a stand. The stands are not cheap when you need a lot of them tyhey can be expensive.

Pricing - Tile Magnets

Subject: Pricing for tile magnets

Just wondering what you all charge for the tile magnets. Hope to make some for shows this fall.
Thanks
Arlene

[> Re: Pricing for tile magnets -- Shirttails, 07:34:28 09/28/06 Thu [1]

I charge $1 for each magnet in Arkansas.

[> Re: Pricing for tile magnets -- Claudia, 12:48:50 09/28/06 Thu [1]

I also charge $1.00 for my best magnets.....some just are nicer looking than others....and for those that don't print out I put 2 in a baggie for $1.00 and just put them in a basket. Even the slow spenders will pick these up and I haven't wasted my printing ink, etc.

I have enough choices now that I can be a little more selective in the ones I print and don't have nearly as many that aren't top quality.

Claudia

More on Tic Tac Toe Tiles

Subject: Tic Tac Toe

Hello Ladies,
I have a couple of questions. What to you print the tic tac toe board on?
What kind of game pieces do you use? What price to you sell them at?
Is there a tag that goes with them?

Thank you all for helping me out. Your a great group!!!
Kathy

Replies:
Re: Tic Tac Toe -- Ginny, 15:54:13 10/24/06 Tue [1]

I print my board on regular printer paper. Then I ModPodge it onto my tile. For the playing pieces I usually make them out of polymer clay to go with the board. IE for a Christmas board I make santa hats and candy canes. For a snowman board I made snowballs and top hats. I found boxes at Wal-mart that the 4X4 tiles fit in perfectly. I glued the tile to the inside of the lid. Painted the box and modpodged a copy of the board to the top. Then when you put your pieces in the box and put the lid on everything is all in one place. I don't sell mine, I give them away. Never was any good at pricing things.

Re: Tic Tac Toe -- Laura, 16:10:09 10/24/06 Tue [1]

Last year, I printed onto clear full-sheet sticker pages, then sprayed a clear sealer over that (several coats). But this year, I am going to print onto regular paper and run through my xyron laminating (laminate one-side/sticky on back).

I use the flat marbles for my sets (also don't forget to put something on the back side...I use sticky fun foam). I don't have a poem, just bagged it all into clear baggies (pieces in a small zip loc so they keep those together), with a header card.

I currently sell the sets at $5.00 each.

Re: Tic Tac Toe -- Kathy from CA, 17:35:44 10/24/06 Tue [1]

Thank you ladies for the info. I will try them both out.
Thank you again.
Kathy

Re: Tic Tac Toe -- Addy, 18:32:07 10/24/06 Tue [1]

If you aren't going to Modpodge and you don't have a xyron laminating machine what else can I do to put the graphic on the tile.

Re: Tic Tac Toe -- liz, 19:31:48 10/24/06 Tue [1]

i use clear contact paper on mine and i use flat marbles, i have used erasers in design.

Subject: Photo Tile Information

I am looking for any information on how to transfer a photo or a picture to a tile. By this, I mean to actually take the picture off the paper and put it directly on the tile. I believe several months ago, someone posted the stuff that you can use to do this.. It was some kind of decoupage, I think. But not Mod Podge or Ailenes..
Hoping someone can help me.

Thanks Sue,
That is a technique that I have not heard of before, but I am sure gonna try it. The site I was talking about used a certain brand of decoupage and after putting it on the pic, u set the pic on the tile and the next morning take the paper off and the pic was left on the tile.. LOL OH well, if the site you sent me will give me the same effects, and it uses plain water, it is probably better..
Thanks again

This also sounds like something I would like to try, that is IF I can find the stuff around here.. We do most of our craft shopping at WalMart. When the weather is good, we can drive 50 miles to Pueblo and go to Hobby Lobby.. The only problem going there is I always get into soooo much trouble..LOL I spend wayyyy tooo much..
Thanks for sending this site..

Subject: question about tiles

Hi ladies,
I have seen these posts for tiles for awhile, are ya all talking about ceramic tiles you buy at say Lowes or something. Also how do you attach the paper to the tiles or do you use the paper that has the sticky back? Do you cover the whole tile or is there a way to let some of the tile show thru. Maybe just basic instructions would work best lol
Thanks and have a blessed day

Re: question about tiles -- Jesslynn, 10:44:20 04/04/07 Wed [1]

Rochelle,
I usually use heavy weight paper and mod podge. I have found that the regular printer paper that I use tends to bubble with the mod podge. I know others do use the sticky back paper...I haven't tried that...yet!

I also cover the whole tile with the paper graphic or what ever. I have also done rubber stamping on tiles. I use a permanent ink pad called Stayz On. It can be found in the rubber stamp isle at any craft store. After I stamp them I bake them for about 30 minutes at 350 just to set the ink.
Hope this helps!
Jesslynn

Re: question about tiles -- crafterwannabe, 13:33:42 04/04/07 Wed [1]

There's a thread in archives on various ways people finish their tiles (yes, ceramic tiles from home centers) along with other info you might find helpful. I love printing on clear labels but sometimes struggle with a finish that works with the labels. I've also printed on paper and run them through my Xyron - laminate on one side and adhesive on the other. Very quick and easy if you have the machine but I prefer the shiny hard finish best.

Re: question about tiles -- SandraTN, 14:14:54 04/04/07 Wed [1]

I print my picture out on Avery sheet label paper, which has the adhesive back. I print it the same size as the tile, but measure the tile first. They aren't exactly 6" square. I do not have a Xyron, so before putting my pic on the tile, I cover the pic with clear lamination (comes in a roll), then I cut it out. Pull the tape off the back, halfway, get it lined up and then pull the remainder off. I go around the edges real well making sure it is all adhered. I love doing the tiles.

Re: question about tiles -- Kathy P, 14:25:26 04/04/07 Wed [1]

Can you show how you do the back of the tiles, I would love to see the finished product.

Re: question about tiles -- SandraTN, 19:34:22 04/04/07 Wed [1]

Kathy, I take Alleene's Tacky glue, in the gold bottle, and spread thinly across entire back. I place a piece of felt on it, choosing a color that coordinates with the pic on front and press down really well. The back is like a waffle and not smooth. Then I take scissors and run along the edge of the tile and it trims it just perfect. I also use a gold paint pen and paint all around the edge. All I have made have been given away, so I have no pic of the back. Sorry....

Re: question about tiles -- Kathy P, 19:47:49 04/04/07 Wed [1]

Sandra, thanks that helps I can see it in my little mind already. I will try this with mine.

Thanks Deb, I need to do 60 and not sure I can hang in for that many - but I'll give it a try. I tried to pry them off, but they hang on for dear life!

I found it easier to get the stuff off by soaking the tiles in hot soapy water.

Subject: Does anyone have???? Magnets 2x2?-

I have just finished up a batch of 2 x 2 tile magnets, and realize I don't have enough variety. Does anyone have any 8-1/2 x 11 sheets of those magnets that you would share? I especially need cute sayings, patriotic and Fall/thanksgiving.

If you have them stored somewhere like Photobucket, I can just snag them, or if they are in a form you can email, I can work with that.

I can also resize and put together a page...I think I can get 20 on a page.

Thank you so much if you can share.

I use to be able to buy the magnet sheets at 'Dollar Tree' two different sizes - '8 1/2 x 11' & 'two 4x5's'. But the last few times I've gone to the Dollar Tree I couldn't find them. You can give your Dollar Store a try.

Subject: 2 " tile question

I have a sheet of the 2" tiles, they are hooked together with a white glue, I can cut them apart but how do I get the glue off that remains on the tile sides? thanks for your help. Lin

when i took mine apart i took a one sided razor blade and went down the sides where they were at, worked good for me, you just have to be careful, and not cut yourself.

If you want to after you finish putting the image on, you can carefully glue a small ribbon around to give a nice finished look.

I used a box cutter knife and scraped the stuff as close as I could. Make sure you test on with the strength of a magnet so you don't have to redo. I finally got sheets of awesome magnets from Oriental Trading and just cut the sheets the same side as the magnet, or a little bit smaller. Worked fine, but that was my second attempt with putting a magnet on the back. The first rounds were round and not strong enough. Just thought I'd mention it to you.

I want to make some tiles to use as coasters. Can someone tell me what I should use to put on top so the liquid doesn't leak through? I have some that are lamenated but when I put a glass with ice water on it and leave for a while it makes the graphic bleed underneath

You can use Envirotex. It's sold at Michaels, Home Depot Hobby Lobby etc. It's a 2 part epoxy that you mix and use. You can brush it on with a foam brush. But a hint....if you get bubbles in it, they are difficult to get out. You can get some out by exhaling on it.Makes some of them go away. Also needs to set up overnight at least.HTH

CJ,
I use the product to make mugs into picture holders. When I get bubbles, I use one of those candle lighters. I touch the flame to the surface and the bubbles disappear.
