Thank You for such clear and more in depth picture site.

There are yahoo groups you can join that gives you heaps of patterns. Go into yahoo groups and do a search on iris foldings. I belong to a couple and they are great. Also if you do a search on something like google or yahoo for iris folding you can also pick up instructions
I'm alway looking for new ideas for card making and this is a great one, as each time you do a pattern depending on the papers used each card is so different.

Hey, that's different.
It looks like it is done with material,
And I suppose you could do that. I am away from home but will get back on the weekend, and hope to be able to print out the pattern.
thanks for sharing

Thanks for telling us about this site Cindy - Iris folding is so lovely - the closest I've seen to it is teabag folding - I'd love to try. I have bookmarked it - thanks so much!

Wow, that is so cool as my dgd would say. At first glance I thought it seemed too complicated (for me) but I ended up printing the pattern and saved the site. Pattern is a lot smaller than it looks on screen. I was encouraged when I saw a comment (I think on the flower) that she had taught children as young as 7 to do this beautifully. Maybe there's hope for me too. Thanks so much for the site, Crafty Cindy! I hope Jazbo sees this - on the off chance she's never done it. Bet she'd love it.

I love Iris Folding and have done a lot of it. I also teach card making at a local craft shop.
You can use almost anything. Using material makes the card more bulky but gives a nice 'puffy' look. We have used ribbon and lace as well.
Nice paper to use for this is gift wrap paper because some of it is fairly thin. My absolute fav paper to use is Japanese oragami papers.
Here is a great site to learn different card making techniques. I learned here when I first started making cards about 4-5 yrs ago.

This technique is reversed patchwork. When machine sewing a block pattern together you start in the centre and work outwards. With this you start on the edge and work inwards. I have loads of patchwork patterns that I have adapted to do this. My M-I-L made one with a group she belongs to and they ended up in the local paper. It certainly is very popular and the instructions that Cindy linked to is brilliant. - Melis

Thank you so much for the link - I made an Iris Folding Angel yesterday and would love if someone could come up with a saying or poem to put inside of the card. I'm a Chemo Angel and would love to start making these Iris Folding angels for cards to send out for my special assigments. Thank you..........Mary
