Calendar and Photo Frame Ideas-CD Cases

Subject: empty CD cases

I just thought of a use for all of those empth CD cases that are laying around and we don't want to throw away.
If you enlarge the 3x3 tiles, that Sondra made, a tad you could put them in there and stand them on an easel. By the way, they have cute little easels at Walmart for 57 cents.
Just a thought. Hugs, Judy

Here's another cute gift idea using a CD case.

I've searched the archives with no luck. Does anybody have any CD case calendars they'd be willing to share? Something where the month takes up the entire square? I've tried cutting and pasting thing, but they look blurry and distorted. Can anybody help?

Hi Testy,
I wonder if this would help you...

They have a CD size month calendar which you can customise with your own favourite picture or graphic from your own files.

Making CD Case Note Pads (& More)

does anyone know how to make notepads in cd holders. thanks in advange.

Replies:
[> Re: notepads in a cd holder -- CarolB, 21:43:18 09/21/05 Wed [1]

I have made these before.
I used a desktop publishing program and made cover inserts for the cd case, and then glued a note pad inside the back cover. A small pen fits in the edge of the case when it is closed.

If you search the internet there are template sites where you can get templates for the cd case covers, for different programs, or in .jpg or some other format.

There is a photo of one I made in my Yahoo! photos. Sorry I don't have a photobucket account to upload it here.
Note: Link deleted since it was no longer valid.

Hope this helps.

Carol,
Enjoyed looking through your photos. May I ask where you got the graphics for the golf teabag?? And how think is the cork for the starburst?? Love your snowflakes!!

[> Re: notepads in a cd holder -- CarolB, 01:08:04 09/22/05 Thu [1]

Terri,
I don't recall where the graphics came from for the golf tee bag I use Microsoft Publisher for most of my tags & toppers, so it most likely came from there. for the border I created my own in Publisher using a golf ball graphic. If I locate the original graphics I'll post again.

I slice a piece off the end of a wine bottle cork, not quite 1/2" thick, for the starbursts.

Hope that helps some.

Thanks Penny for asking for these.

Hi Terri how are you, nice to 'see' you here.

CarolB I loved looking through your photos - did you use one continuous piece of paper for the paper angels or two separate ones? Thanks for sharing.
(Hugs)
Doreen

[> Re: notepads in a cd holder -- CarolB, 08:28:07 09/22/05 Thu [1]

Doreen,
The paper angels are made from two pieces of paper twist (I think that is what it is called. It all rolled up like twine or rope.) Unroll the pieces of paper twist and with one piece fan one end out. Scrunch or roll the other end back up so it can be glued into the hole in a wooden bead for the angel's head. Twist the other piece in the middle to make wings and glue onto the back of the first piece.

Hope this helps.

[> Re: notepads in a cd holder -- Doreen, 09:42:13 09/22/05 Thu [1]

Thanks Carol for explaining - I thought it was done this way but now I know for sure. I have a new roll of paper twist, just have to get me some wooden beads and I'll be all set for paper angels now! Thanks Carol.
Happy Crafting!

[> Re: notepads in a cd holder -- CJ, 14:11:04 09/22/05 Thu [1]

Carol...your cd notepad holders are great. I do have a few questions though (if you don't mind). Are you removing the insert that holds a cd? If so, is there an easy way to remove it? If I remove it from the cases I have, there will be a void left on the hinged side of the case. What did you do with the open section? I hope this makes sense. TIA for your help! CJ

[> Re: notepads in a cd holder -- Penny, 15:21:16 09/22/05 Thu [1]

thank you Carol for sharing the pictures. thats what i was look for. and i love the angels...penny

[> Re: notepads in a cd holder -- CarolB, 17:29:48 09/22/05 Thu [1]

CJ,
Yes I do remove the insert that holds the CD. I usually use a letter opener to pry it out.

I think the void you are refering to is where I put a mini pen. It sits in there quite well when the case is closed.

Hope this helps.

Shannon, thanks for sharing that article. I can't read the instructions as it is too tiny. Can you tell me what is being used for the crown part of the hat? Is it a jar lid? Is the CD covered with material or is that scrapbooking paper? I've painted the CD's and used Fancy Feast cat food cats for the crown.

Penny, try a nail tap lighty. Let us know when you figure out how to do it.

[> Re: I need your help!!!!! -- Amanda F., 22:24:16 02/24/06 Fri [1]

You could try using a very small drill bit or if you don't have that, then you might want to try heating a needle {like a sewing needle} and use that to make the hole. That could take several times of heating the needle to work. I haven't tried these suggestions myself on a CD so the best of luck and maybe the other ladies will be able to offer some better ideas.

[> Re: I need your help!!!!! -- Kimberly, 22:58:32 02/24/06 Fri [1]

Heat your nail with a lighter or something of the sort and it will slide right through.

Use CD Cases as Frames

Subject: 3d cd case picture

I just thought that I would let everyone know, that the thicker cd cases make excellent frames for 3d pictures. I made a 3d picture for my sister for a get well present and it turned out so nice..that I was looking all over my house trying to find something that I could use for a frame. Well, I spied my cd cases, and tried it out...It closed a little tightly, but looked great. Then I took black ribbon and made a frame around the outside and put three ribbon roses on the top. I had a small plate holder stand and wow..was I proud of my self...LOL!! When I get another one done...cuz of course now I have to make more..
I will try to post a picture..

\Re: 3d cd case picture -- BBCrafts, 12:29:48 06/30/06 Fri [1]

Wow, what a great idea. It would work great to mail the 3D cards in also. I wrapped bubble wrap around the 3D cards to mail them (and they arrived safely) but this would be a better idea to get them there safely. Then they could display them in their homes easier also. Thanks for the tip.

Mary Lee, I have spray painted mine b4. just takes many light coats. But now i use the paint in the bottle like you find at walmart. folk-art may be one brand. Hope this helps.

Re: Question about painting CD's -- Marina, 19:57:37 10/02/06 Mon [1]

Hi Mary Lee, I have just done a few, gingerbreads and Snowman, I put on two coats of gesso first, then stippled the base coat on, still had to do a couple of coats but I found that quicker than brushing it, took four or five coats that way. Marina

Re: Question about painting CD's -- Linda Ohio now GA, 21:42:34 10/02/06 Mon [1]

It does take several light coats of spray paint to get them covered. You might want to try a spray primer first which is a flat paint, not glossy.
