Subject: Has anyone made the "Dollar General" hand lotion?

A friend told me about it and I made some this morning. I think I like it but don't know just yet. Makes a lot for the money, less than $4.00.

Here is the lotion formula:

Get ingredients at Dollar General:

I bottle baby lotion (pink) their brand (DG)
1 jar vaseline
1 jar vitamin E-cream

Empty all into large bowl.Mix well. I use my elecrtic beaters, makes it flufflier & makes a lot. Blend well!!! All the ingredients were Dollar General brand. For storage, I filled up the vaseeline jar, the vitamin 3 jar and 3 ziplock small snap and store jars.
ENJOY!!

Thanks Wilma! My mom gave me this same recipe a few years ago & I lost it. It works really well on my rough ole elbows & heels. It does make alot like you said.

Willow, I was complaining about my feet (I go barefoot ALL the time) and elbows when my friend told me about this. When I went to get my "stuff" the manager of the store guessed what I was going to do. I was surprised he even noticed but he said the last store he was at this recipe went thru the church ladies and he could not keep the ingredients. Thank God for church ladies. ha

If this REALLY works on rough feet...I want to know. Mine are sooo bad but I am a barefoot Kentuckian LOL. I only wear shoes when I am going out. Around the house...no shoes.

I have made it several times. Love it on my feet. It is very good for your face. I put it on every night before going to bed and can still feel it a little the next morning.

Wilma, thanks so much for posting this! I've never heard of the recipe and I neglect my poor feet terribly. I'll be making a trip to Dollar General and my mixer will wonder what's going on! Sounds like a good little "something" to add to ddil's Christmas stockings too.

Melinda, I guess you could add a fragrance,tho it has a pleasant smell.
I thought of giving it as well as gifts as it makes a lot but not sure how to package it. I guess could leave it in the ziplock snap and seal.
Jeanne, how do you plan to package it for your show?

WalMart sells those little containers with a flip top. They are about 50 cent each. And about 5 inches long. They are in the health and beauty section. Not sure exactly where there. they have soap dishes, tooth brush holder, etc. Hugs, Diane

Wilma, I immediately thought of these very pretty jars I've been saving for something special. They're just clear jars but the shape is nice and a label would go on the jar nicely. All I have to do is find them! I tend to save too many jars and DH eventually puts them out for recycle. So I "hide" the ones I really don't want to go!

If you had some baby food jars hanging around they would be good for this too. Unfortunately I got rid of MOST of mine. I do have some of the stage 3 jars. Kept those for use in the classroom but I don't have a classroom...YET so I might just store the stuff in those!

I too use this skin cream. In mine I use the dollar general baby lotion with lavendar scent. It is very good. I also am the barefoot lady around the house so my feet can use all the help they can get. LOL I have started some of my co-workers on to this recipe as well. They tell me they have all their family members using it too. Very inexpensive and I usaully get 5 jars from the recipe . I just save and refill the vitamin E jars.

I have made this for several years. My sisters beg for it at Christmas. I use the little Walmart 50 cent containers for my purse, car, etc, but I use a glass jar with lid in the bathroom. I have made it with baby lotion, cocoa butter & other fragrant lotions ...all from the Dollar General. I mis mine in a huge bowl and use a large funel (also Dollar General) to put it back into the lotion bottles. Then I put on the cap and squeeze it into the smaller bottles. They make great stocking stuffers. I keep a bottle at work and all the patients have to have a squirt when they come in to see the doctor...haha
Make sure you mix it well, or the vaseline will lump. I put mine in the microwave (without the lid) for 30 seconds to soften it up b4 I mix it with the other ingredients.
And YES it makes ALOT ladies, so the first time you may want to cut the recipe in half.

this is a great recipe. i dont like the baby fragrance so i use the suave cucumber/melon for the lotion part. living in the southwest my skin gets very dry especially in the winter.i put this on all over right after a shower, and before bed. am also a nurse and my hand get so dry with all the hand washing. took a bottle to work and now all the staff use it and ask for a refill when it is empty. i promise you will love this one!!!!!!!!!!gayle

Never thought of selling it at craft fairs. Also I am going to try the cucumber and melon lotion in mine, something new. I would love to see the label and poem if our poets come up with one thanks in advance.

P.S. I think at my DG the jars are all one size it is the regular size vitamin E, vaseline ,and baby lotion.

okay this is really not an "exact science" type recipe, but this is the way i have made mine.

1-8oz. jar of vitamin e cream
2-15oz. bottles of lotion
1- 4oz. jar of vaseline

just put in the mixing bowl and whip it all together. hope this helps...sometimes the bottles are not exactly the amount listed above, so you can just "guesstament" don't go to the trouble of trying to measure these to the exact quanity. ex: vaseline now comes in a 7.5oz jar so when making a double batch i would just use 1 jar and not try to get the extra 0.5 oz from another jar or go mad looking for the 8oz jar. another note the lotions with alot of alcohol really defeats the purpose so make sure it way down on the ingredients list or not there at all.

Thank you Wilma for the idea. I haven't thought of anything like this. I really enjoy making up baskets for different things like taking to the hospital, etc... I'm making one right now as a prize for a diaper raffle that we are doing at a baby shower next Saturday and this lotion will make a great additional to the basket. Thanks for the wonderful idea.

OK - I just HAD to make some. Went to the local DG store & they had the baby lotion but nothing else. So I substituted a Vit. E cream along with the petroleum jelly. I had some Palmer's body oil, so I added a little of that too. It soaks in the skin really well, & doesn't leave a 'greasy' feeling. It smells so good!

I made up 24 little containers to give to our women's church group. Film canisters were used & I made a simple label on the puter, printed them, stamped a tiny sun on them then ran them through my sticker Xyron. Then the labels were cut apart with paper edgers.

The label:
Summer Foot Creme
for dry, cracked feet
Main ingredients:
Baby Lotion, Vaseline, Vit. E cream

Living in West Texas where skin doesn't stand a chance a lady at church gave me this very same recipe. It was amazing. I got all my supplies at Family dollar. I even used it as moisterizer for my face. I made bottles to hand out at Christmas assuring my mil that I hadnt added anything aloe to it considering she is allergic to aloe. I spoke to her a couple days later after reading the ingredients on the vit e cream to let her know there was aloe in it. To late she already had a reaction....ooops. Well, personally I think it is a great lotion. Just never had luck with it in pump dispensers. Hope everyone enjoys it as much as I always have. DEB

Wilma, Thank you for the recipe. Would you mind checking to see what size bottle of lotion you got? That way everyone will know what to look for. To me one bottle vs two bottles is a huge difference. the way i have made it is with 30 oz. of lotion.....if the bottles are 15 oz each then that would equal 2 bottles

Gayle, thanks for the info. What size containers of the other did you use? Now I am confused. Is it 1- 15 oz. bottle of lotion to the jar (again not sure of size) of vaseline and vitamin E? I am going today to get this and con't want to get the wrong things. I plan on sending this to MS. and see what happens.

This is what I used to make mine, including the sizes. It turned out wonderful!!! Everyone loved it! My aunt sent me this recipe.
P.S. I don't think mine would work with a pump. It's a little thicker and I don't think it would go through the pump.

Homemade Hand Cream

2 (15 oz each) bottles baby lotion (scented or unscented)
2 (8 oz each) jars Vitamin E skin cream
1 (7.5 oz) petroleum jelly

Mix all ingredients with an electric mixer and put into containers. One batch will make about 14 containers (1/2 C each).

Items can be bought for $1.00 each at Dollar General stores.

Containers are 1/2 C Gladware (clear with a blue lid) and can be bought at Wal-Mart, etc. They come 8 to a package for around $2.00.

I found some small containers at the dollar store. There was 10 in a pack. They are about a 1/2 size. I bought everything except the Vitamin E cream, my dg didn't have any.

I just made a batch of this tonight. I bought the as I call it "Sleepy Lotion" ya know the one with Lavendar. The hardest part was getting it into the little bottles I bought at Wal-Mart. I don't know how I can make it easier next time. Any suggestions?

I made this yesterday. I used:

1 bottle (15 oz) DG "Sleepy Lotion" baby lotion
1 jar (8 oz) Delon Vitamin E skin cream
1 jar (7.5 oz) DG Petroleum Jelly

Softened Petroleum Jelly in the microwave for about 45 seconds. Added the other two ingredients. Whipped it up. Filled several pill bottles. (Will be checking with WalMart for empty film canisters) Just keep in mind this makes A LOT!!!

I tried it last night on my feet (which are like lizard leather) along with socks. WOW what a difference this morning. Took several to work for the gals to try and comment. Anxious to hear what they say tomorrow.

My only complaint - clean up was a bit mess - but well worth it.

im going to have a go at making this cream on the weekend i was thinking i could put some in a soap dispenser. and store the rest in the containers . will it come out of a soap dispenser or will it be to thick???

I noticed someone asking for a poem for the Dollar General cream on an earlier post, so I made one up and then made up some labels. Hope they are useful to someone.

Subject: Here's a tag I came up with for the home-made skin cream.

I had this graphic and thought it would look cute on a tag for the cream. I wrote this little ditty to go with it. It might show up here really big, but if you'll e-mail me and put "Cream" in the subject line. I'll send it to you. I made it 2" X 3". You ladies are corrupting me! I didn't want to take on another project but it seemed so easy. Okay I just wanted to share with you the containers I found at the Dollar Tree. They are in the beauty isle, they come in blue, pink, white and purple. 2 small circles about 2" and 3 bottles the size of a travel size shampoo about 4" it also contained a bath scrubby that you could use to make those cute angel scrubbies! All that for $1.00! What a deal! My husband is going to string me up and take away my wallet! LOL!

Here is an idea for the cream. Use clear film containers that you can get free at any place that develops film. Saw this at a craft fair where the person was selling her creams.

I was at the Dollar General today and found some white ceramic jars with colored tops that looked like flowers and have a metal closure on them similar to what's on a canning jar..they were only $1.50 each also some plain glass jars with silver tops 3 for $2.00 think I will try these as I plan to give it as presents.

HI ladies
what about using the 2.5 ounce jars of the first foods baby food they are only 34 cents including baby food lol and you could always paint the lids so they would be really cute.(after the baby food is gone of course)
also in the travel size aisle of wal-mart they have empty travel bottles for 50 cents each used for shampoo lotions and such, at our wal-mart there are two different kinds of these the flat bottles(used for hand lotions and the round bottles also.

I used the WalMart bottles and they were a pain to have to fill! I would suggest using a container with a bigger mouth.

Would it work to put the cream in a ziplock bag? Clip a corner and add a icing tip (large one like for adding eggyolks to deviled eggs. You could save the messy bag for yourself to use for a while. I use ziplocks all the time for icing bags and thought it might just work.

I purchased some snack-size disposable containers at Deals (another everything's a dollar store). The ones I bought were 4.5 oz. and had 6 in a package. (I chose these over film canisters, because I thought I may have trouble getting the cream out of the the film containers.) These were in the baby section and came in lavender and teal green. Since I chose the Sleepy Time scent of the baby lotion, I thought the lavender was an appropriate choice.

Also, if you have a Deals in your area, they have the Vitamin E cream ($1, of course). My DG only had the 2-in-a-pkg. for $3.50. Also, my DG did not have the 13 oz. petroleum jelly, but Deals did.

If you purchase everything at Deals and use the 4.5 oz. containers, you can get 7 containers (plus a dab left over for yourself) of cream for a cost of 60 cents each.

There are some 1 oz containers on ebay for .28 cents piece you can order any amount from 1 to 4911 which is all that she has and the shipping is $7.95 no matter how many you order. I am on my way to town to get some lotion. I will try my hand at it tomorrow as We do not have any parts to do at work so we are shut down so we get a 3 day weekend. YEAH

For years I have saved those little tubs for something; now I want to make the DG lotion and as of yet I don't have any containers. I thought about my little tubs but I need some kind of top so the lotion doesn't dry out. Here's what I came up with: colored plastic wrap secured with a rubberband; then use a small doily (1/2 dollar size) over the top for decoration. What do you think? Any other ideas?

How about this...
Use a heavy mylar or perhaps the clear plastic sheets that come in bacon. Trace the top on it so that you have a perfect circle to fit the top. Bend it in half. Only glue one half of the circle to the rim, so that the other half can be lifted to fill with cream. Maybe close it with a little piece of tape after filling. Sit it on a piece of plastic saran wrap and pull it up tightly around it and tie it off with a ribbon. Doily would be cute too like you said. I need to start saving those little buggers! LOL

My son came in with a handful of condiment containers and lids from McDonalds.
GD Anna told him we could put our soft knees cream in them lol.
She looks out for Grandma Patty.
Anyway he did'nt know what she was talking about.
He still brought home a few.
Anna was right it works great for small amounts.
Anna helped me make some,Ronnie(DH)thought we had strawberry cool whip.
Good thing it was'nt April Fool's Day...lol.

From Dollar General
1 bottle baby lotion Pink bottle
1 jar vaseline (7.5 oz give or take)
1 jar Vit. E cream (8 oz give or take)
All depends on the kind you get how much it weighs. I got all Dollar General brand and cost me $3.

I used the same "recipe" as Linda. I did heat the vaseline in the microwave for about 45 seconds just to soften it a bit. I used a stainless steel bowl and my regular handheld electric mixer. Washed everything really well with dish soap and then ran through the dishwasher. Lotion turned out a little softer than whipped margarine.
Everybody I have given this to has raved about how great it works.

Gonna give it to ladies I work with....
Have a couple hints......
a butter knife works good getting it in the bottles......is slow but not to messy.

I heated everything in the microwave, made it easy to mix by hand.

It makes a LARGE amount......better go find more bottles....lol

I have also made some and put it in those 1/2 c. jelly canning jars. I have had them for years and not useing them for anything else. It is easy to get the lotion in and easy to use. I love the stuff. Only made it a couple of days ago so haven't had a really good chance to use it much but am happy so far.

Does the petroleum jelly make it very greasy?
Does it absorb pretty good or feel sticky?
I have read that it makes a large quantity.
I have a few baby food containers,the little plastic rectangular boxes.

I used the same amount ingredients as Jesslynn. I love the feel of the cream. It is not greasy, you just don't need to use a lot of it. A little goes a long way. It's not a lotion, it's a cream. I have very dry, flakey skin on my legs and I used it last night. Today there is no sign of flaking. So this cream is deffinately a keeper for me. I'll be keeping it by my kitchen sink and also in the bathroom to use after showers. The amount is not too much. I think it's plenty for yourself and couple of dry skinned friends like me. tee-hee I didn't use the baby lotion, I used a cucumber melon type from the dollar store. I figured that DH would use it too if it didn't smell too girlie. By the way, he likes it too.

You have the same products I have used for over a year now . I just love the cream. I suffer(used to) from psorsias on my elbows and believe me this works !! I place all ingredients in an old tupperware bowl (large)and whip with my hand beater. Comes out wonderful. Fill jars I always save my vitamin E jars to reuse. Have passed this around at work and their families now use it as well. I run all eguipment through the dish washer. LOL A whole lot easier to wash up this way.

It is good stuff - love it! I used the same recipe Jesslynn posted. It feels like it will be greasy when you first put it on, but it soaks into the skin like a dream.
Have to tell you a funny story, though. I gave out some to our ladies church group & just put a simple label on it with main ingredients - baby lotion, vaseline, & Vit. E cream. So one creative lady thought she would make her own. She called me, saying hers was very runny & if she whipped it more, would it get thicker? I asked her what she put in it; she had put a bottle of baby oil in it, instead! She said that was what my label said. I said, really? So she read it back to me & of course, the first thing was baby LOTION! (not oil). I suggested she put her formula in a pump bottle. And she had made a double batch! Yikes! lol

It may be pretty good with a small quantity of baby oil added in.
Clean up is a little messy,but Dawn dish liqid sure helps.

vitamin E skin cream is in the beauty isle at dollar gen. I made a batch up but didn't like the scent at all
I also thought it was very greesy. I'm going to try the sleepy scent they had to see if I like that scent better.

Nancy, there are so many posts about the lotion but most of what I've read are from people trying it for themselves and friends. A few did mention they would be good craft fair items. Here's a reply from Melinda on Caboobie's thread sharing her wonderful labels - but no one answered about the suggested price there either. Even though she mostly doubled the ingredients, her cost seems a little higher than some members mentioned. Can you price it like you do other craft items using your cost for ingredients/supplies as a base? There are various "formulas" for pricing items discussed on the Craft Show Archive Board.

Jesslyn, I used the 4oz containers too. I had no problem getting the cream into them. I used a large funnel with a tip that just fit into the opening of the squeeze bottle. I put the cream into the top of the funnel and squeezed the bottle. When I squeezed, the cream just plopped right into the bottle. Next time give it a try. I love the cream in the squeeze bottle because now I can carry one with me in my purse. I love the stuff and don't want to be without it. tee-hee

Try putting your lotion in a large ziplock bag, seal the bag, cut off a small amount on one of the corners on the bag and you should be able to just squeeze your lotion into the bottles. It should be helpful when using small mouth bottles. Deb C

I used the squeeze type bottles from walmart. I put a funnel with a large tip that just fit into the bottle. Filled the funnel with the cream and squeezed the bottle. It formed a suction and the cream just plopped right into the bottle. I just tapped the bottle on the counter and the cream went to the bottom. Then I continued to fill.

After trying to fill the bottles using a funnel (without the squeezing technique), I put my lotion into my candy making squeeze bottle. It had a larger mouth than the bottles from WalMart so it was easier to fill it and then squeeze the lotion into the smaller bottles. I did have to tap on the counter but it drove the dog in the upstairs apartment NUTS LOL! It would start barking like a mad man when I was tapping on the counter.

I then stepped over to the Family dollar (right next door) and they had some of the Vitamin E cream for $3 (not a lot off but every penny counts...right?)

Here is my opinion - I think if you use Dollar Tree, Dollar General, Dollar Store, etc. baby lotion, vaseline and Vitamin E it will be OK. Alot of this is the cost effectiveness not counting the smooth, silky feel you get on your skin.

Let me tell you, I use it on my feet. Now give it a minute to soak in. WOW! Anything that is dry - your legs,, hands, elbows, feet, back, etc. IT IS GREAT. and not greasy. That is why you use the smaller amount of vaseline. I used 2 of the lotions and Vit. E and 1 vaseline. It is so whipped and soft and easy to get into a container with a wide type mouth.

when i started making up batches of the recipe, i could not get the vitamin e cream at dollar tree. they did have the vaseline. i got the other ingredients at the family dollar store. since i didn't want to smell like a clean baby, i love the suave cucumber melon lotion, but any will do. in the winter this is great just all over the body after you get out of the shower. gave a bottle to my daughter for her and the new babe. this is great for their bottoms. the vaseline repells the moisture, the vitamin e encourages healing and the lotion makes them smell good. it is also good for heat rash when applied to clean dry skin.

I would guess that if you got the lotion and a jar of vit E cream and jar of vaseline you would have what you need. Shouldn't matter where you get it. In fact I saw the same jar of Vit E Cream in my grocery store in the dollar isle.

I've been making this hand cream for my own personal use and to share with friends for about 10 years. Of course, the only real expense is jars. I recently ordered 2 dozen 4-0z jars at $6.50 per dozen from Melange LLC in Florida. www.lemelange.com At the time I ordered, I was told the shipping and handling would be approx. $5, however when the parcel arrived, I had been charged $10.50 for shipping, making my jars cost 97 cents per jar. I have ordered from this company before and their service is very good, but 97 cents each doubles the cost of the gift. When I give a jar of cream to a friend, I tell her that if she likes it and would like more to bring the jar to me and I'll be glad to refill it for her. I live in a retirement village and I like to give small inexpensive gifts for my fellow residents and everyone seems to appreciate the cream. Splitting the cost of an order with someone else would help keep the cost down.

If you click on glass jars or plastic jars on that site you will find some small jars that are from $.58-$.62 each that are only a two ounce size that would be perfect for the cream. That is about the size container I used at Christmas and it worked great--just right to carry in your purse or put on your nightstand. The size you were looking at originally I think was $.50 each, but really quite large. You would not get very many gifts at a low price. Just my opinion, but hope it helps you make up your mind.

May I ask you Ladie a Question? I have had made and sold Bath Salts and have sold some at Christmas during my Christmas Sales, I even got my hubby into helping me lol.

The lotion or cream that I made is the Dollar Store Lotion that is in the archives. Everyone I gave it to really loved it and it is quite inexpensive. In fact, I have the items to make some more right now. I gave mine in containers that help about 2 oz. and now every one is running out and wanting more. I gave it away at Christmas time, but am going to sell it at a very low cost this time to cover the expenses but am not interested in making a lot of profit as it is for friends and family.

Subject: DGS lotion label needed

Im doing the DGS lotion and I need a label for a small jar im putting it in about about the size of a business card. It should maybe have a baby on it and the poem about the lotion is for babys bottom or diaper rash or keeps from getting diaper rash.Id appreciate a label if anyone has time ty in advance

I found the perfect container for the homemade skin cream! I went to the canning jar section of WalMart and found these plastic (screw on wide top) jelly jars, They are 3 1/2 inches tall. They are perfect for this project! All you have to do is spoon in the cream! I liked them because they had a purple lid....perfect for EASTER BASKETS! I made the lables on paper and just used a glue stick. The ones I made for Christmas...everyone returned the jar for a refill! This is really popular at our house! Hubby loves it! He had a rash on his leg that has always bothered him. Since using this cream the rash is GONE! Just thought maybe you guys would like this idea too! ENJOY!

Thanks for the jar tip. It has been added to my shopping list. I had to buy more cream making supplies. That stuff goes FAST around here. I am thinking all the females in my family will be getting a jar for Christmas in a basket with couple of candles, a new scrubbie & maybe thier favorite body wash.
Wish there was a way to make it smell more manly...LOL! The guys would get some too.

I think they were in pkg of 6...not sure.
They weren't very expensive. I bought them last Christmas time and opened them all up. I had some empty ones left over for Easter..sorry I can't be of more help! The plstic is sooooooooooooo nice because it wont break if dropped-- and as I stated before....THEY ARE REFILLABLE!

Recipe for Homemade Cream/Lotion

Get ingredients at your dollar store or dollar aisle:

I bottle baby lotion (pink) their brand (NOT BABY OIL!)
1 jar petroleum Jelly(vaseline)
1 jar vitamin E-cream

I don't have the oz size for the above ingredients. I just get the jars that maybe have approximately a cup. The baby lotion I just get what they have. I know this sounds random but when you mix them together they make a wonderful fluffy cream.
I mix mine in my Kitchen Aid mixer and bowl. Mix till completely mixed and fluffy.
Spoon into jars. This makes a lot so save your empty containers (vaseline and vitamin E) and put some finished cream in them too.
Wash all utensils by themselves in the dishwasher on hottest setting you have.

Thanks for sharing, Roberta (and so nice to see you posting!). Love the container and what you did with it. Hope Wal-Mart still has them. I need to make some more myself. My dil is a hand physical therapist and has trouble with her thumbs splitting every winter. She swears this stuff is the only thing that has worked to prevent it.

It's nice to have 2 minutes to myself for a week! (Spring Break) As most of you know I'm now working 3 jobs and I have had very little time to myself...let alone for crafting and posting! It's good to "see" you all again!

when i make mine, i only use half of the vasoline, less greasy... and i've tried the coca butter lotion stuff too instead of the baby lotion, it worked fine & smell like the coca butter too, not the baby smell.

Just came back from our Walmart! Purchased a plastic container in the area where they sell travel sizes of cosmetics,etc. Was wondering if it might work for the dollar store cream, is the cream too thick to go through the opening hole? It was a tube type container and thought it might work great for carrying in purses and or storing in desk drawers at work! Price was 50 cents! You can see through the tube and it has a squeeze opening. 3 oz DISPENSING TRAVEL TUBE is the item and was recommended for body wash, shampoo,conditioner and more!
If it works, thought this would make really cute container for shower favors or spur of the moment "Small" remembrances! A small circlet of attractive fabric or netting could be tied on to "doll"it up! For wedding showers - you could use brides color theme- same for baby shower - blue, pink, yellow or green!

I use those containers all the time. I use a cake decorating tube with a long tip to fill this with. I get the decorating tubes at WOW, it like the Dollar tree and comes with sveral tips for decorating cakes or whatever.

I went to the Dollar Tree and there they had little square containers that look like little sandwich boxes. They would hold abou t 3 ounces and they were 10 to a pack for $1.

I also made it with one of each and came out great. My mom just loves it as do I. When winter rolls around I absolutely have to have it in almost every room. Great stuff. I put it in little jelly jars and when you are using it a little goes a long way.

I have made quite a bit of this and everyone loves it. I use one bottle of lotion, one jar vitiamin E cream, and one 7.5 oz. jar of vasoline. If you don't want it to be quite as "greasy", you can use about half of the vasoline. Either way, mine has turned out really well.

I'm not Judy, but I'll tell you how I make the cream. The fragrance I prefer is baby lotion. To mix it I use my KitchenAid mixer. It whips it up just beautifully. When I give it as gifts I use the plastic jelly jars sold everywhere. Just look where the canning jars are at. I've again inserted the pix of one of the gift jars I gave at Easter time. Next time I make it I'm going to do as suggested and use only half of the vaseline/petroleum jelly. This stuff is marvelous and we can't ever be without it. It cleared up a rash my hubby had for years.

Just saw your additional questions about the $ Cream. First, I love the packaged cream that you did ssdmom. I also use the baby lotion from dollar store and whip up with the mixer too. I have put it in everything from small spice jars, short, fat medicine bottles, and little plastic jars of all kinds. We too use the cream and wouldn't be without it. I will be making more for Christmas this year too.

I use the large bottle of Lavender baby lotion, the large jar of Vitamin E creme (I think they only have one size) and the large jar of Vaseline. I mix all this with my Kitchen-Aid mixer also, then store in glass or plastic jars. With the lavender lotion, the color of the creme is a light orchid - very pretty. I keep a jar sitting on my computer desk. It is great for the feet - esp. the heels!

This is what I use. I don't use the Dollar General brands but I do use generic dollar store cheap stuff for the vaseline and the vitamin E cream. I use Johnsons Baby Lotion because I love the smell of it better than generic:

Dollar General Lotion

1 15 oz. bottle baby lotion (pink) their brand (DG)
1 7.5 oz. jar Vaseline
1 8 oz. jar Vitamin E cream

Empty all into large bowl. Mix well. I use my electric beaters, makes it fluffier & makes a lot. Blend well!!!

Hi Kathy!
How are you doing? Our church bazaar is this next Sat. Hope you can come! Mom has made some of this cream for the bazaar.
I put mine in the 1/2 C round Gladware plastic containers, like Tupperware. They are a clear cup-part with a blue lid. They come 8/pkg, I believe. You can get them at Wal-Mart for about $2.00/pkg. You can easily spoon the handcream into them and it's easy to reach in for the cream to use.

I recently made this cream and it's fantastic. Only thing is I think I'm going to use just a little bit less vaseline because it just seemed to keep my hands a little on the greasy side. But otherwise, it works really well. My mother-in-law loves it.

As for packaging, I have a 2 year old and I have been saving up those plastic tubs from his Gerber foods. I washed them well, dried them, filled it with the lotion cream, and decorated the outside. I put a nice label around the front (to cover up the writing) and then glued a pretty flower on the top (to hide the Gerber name). It looks pretty and hey...I'm recycling!!!

Everyone may have known this but me, but had to pass along my tip. I had travel size bottles from Wal Mart. I used a ziploc bag with a cake tip to fill the bottles. Worked great.

I've made this and gifted it to my friends and family. They just love it. It has worked on dry cracked hands, feet, elbows...or just dry skin. Each batch has been different scent-wise by using a different scented lotion. I mixed mine with a hand mixer. I put it in those short canning jars that are about 2-3" tall. I'm about out, so I will need to make some more.

PS everyone seems to alter the recipe to their own liking. I know I dont use that much vaseline as this recipe calls for. It seems like I use:

15 oz baby lotion
1/4 c vaseline
8 oz vit e creme

Found this recipe online~
Here is the lotion recipe-I like it too.

1 bottle of baby lotion
1 jar of vaseline
1 jar of vitamin E cream
scent--optional

Mix in a large bowl using a mixer.

I bought the scented hand lotions to use instead of baby lotion (in my case, Suave brand)...and each batch I made I used a different one for different scents. Didn't have to add anything to them.

I have been making this several years now and, yes it works. My way is to use 2 of baby lotion, 2 of vitamin E cream and only one of Vaseline unless I get the whipped (which I prefer) and put it all into my mixer bowl turn on to mix well then turn it up to beat for a while.... when I go back it is nicely mixed. I put it into the empty vitamin E jars and other jars or covered containers. I do a full body application once a week. I do it from the forehead now to the tips of my toes and love how it makes me feel. I love the baby lotion called Sleepytime (contains lavender) as it has a very light smell. Norma

I put it into the empty vitamin E jars and other jars or covered containers. I do a full body application once a week. I do it from the forehead now to the tips of my toes and love how it makes me feel. I love the baby lotion called Sleepytime (contains lavender) as it has a very light smell. Norma

I forgot to mention that it is called Dollar Store Miracle Cream, or at least that was what it was going as when I learned about it. Hope this helps someone. Love the stuff. Norma
