Subject: Kids Thumbprint Ornaments
Awhile ago someone was asking about making ornaments from kids handprints, and such. I think it was Melanie....I explained about making an ornament using a blue ball and painting the kids hands with white paint and just have them grab the ball...There are your snowmen...LOL You then paint on their hat and scarfs and paint on the face.
I was searching for the cute poem to go with this, which I finally found. This makes a very cute gift. I dont remember where the poem came from, sorry, as these were done last year.
These aren't just five snowmen
As anyone can see.
I made them with my hand
Which is a part of me.
Now each year when you trim the tree
You'll look back and recall
Christmas of 2005
When my hand was just this small!

I hope Melanie gets to see this!

Okay, I am gonna try to explain. You use a ball glass ball
You paint the childs fingers white and just hand them to ball, like to grab it, like it will sit in the palm of their hand, and their little fingers going up the ball..so when they release their hands you will see the imprint of their 5 fingers. They will look like just white smeared paint...LOL But then you paint hats on them and scarves on and the faces. I am having a hard time trying to explain this. I wish I could use motion in this email...LOL
If I could locate a pic maybe that would help Let me know if you need more help...
Hugs

I did this with my granddaughter one year. I actually painted her complete hand so her parents would have her hand print on the bulb. Then I painted the hats, etc. on the finger snowpeople. It really turned out cute! va

Okay......so the fingers are individual snowpeople????
I think I am getting this!!!
Am I right??

Yes, they are individual snowpeople correct. The white paint that the kids have in their palm comes out like a foundation of the snow and these individual snowpeople are all standing on top, sometimes now though depending on the small fingers. Please let me know if you do this and how they turn out.

I have been making these with the kindergarteners at my sons school now for athe past three years. All of the parents love them. We just paint the fingers...some of our kids hands ar too large to paint the whole hand. We also use the satin balls instead of the glass ones.

bjm, or anyone... Do you have a pic?? This may be a good idea for my daughters friends in first grade!!! I'm not sure i could paint a scarf, but i might could practice....lolol Gina

Sorry, no pic Gina....As far as painting a scarf, it is really easy...With the size of the fingers all you would need is to make a strip of color across where the neck of the snowman should be and 2 little lines at the end. The hats on the snowman you could just make a line and a small square on top of that, for snowcaps by doing a small triangle on top of a wide line. It's fairly easy to do...try it on paper first and practice you will find that you are creative and can do this...LOL

There's a pic. on this site,(snowman ornament) scroll down a bit, plus some other cute ideas!
Paint child's palm and fingers white. Have child carefully grasp the ornament to create the five snowmen. Use a paint marker to make hats, faces, and scarves.
