Subject: Candle poem idea

Candles are such a big business these days. We all use them. The Penny Poems are so creative and useful for so many occasions. How about something similar for votive candles? For example, a Grandmother candle poem, expectant mother poem etc.... Just thinking out loud and wondering if anyone thought it would be a good idea for craft fairs? Have a wonderful weekend.

This sounds like an excellent idea. I make soy candles and have not had a lot of success selling them yet. A small votive candle packaged with a nice poem for a particular person or occasion would make a nice inexpensive gift. I wish I had some talent with words. Not my thing. Maybe some of our talented friends will help out. Great idea, Thanks and Happy Crafting!

The Friendship Candles have been popular,
I would also be interested in some personalised poems,

~ FRIENDSHIP CANDLE ~

This special candle comes from a friend.
So when you light it, burn it to the end.
Because a friendship candle
burned to the socket,
brings luck to your life
and money in your pocket
..........................
This fragrant little candle
is sent to you today
There's no particular reason
just a chance for me to say...
Our days are oh, so busy,
a thousand things to do.
There never seems to be the extra time
for friends like me and you.
So when you light this candle
and watch its flame burn bright,
Know you're in my thoughts and prayers
each and every night.

This is a really great idea! I can picture candles packaged in tulle with a ribbon and flower attached along with poem. How about a teacher poem, a Fathers Day poem, Happy Spring....

This popped into my mind...

Eternally the flame burns
Because Christ died for us
Painful was his sacrifice
Although it was a must
Brightly glows the love he has
For all of humankind
To live and die for each of us
So none are left behind!

I wonder if you realize
Youre such a joy to know
Your inner light and goodness
Each kindness that you show
Each time you burn this candle
Please let it remind you
That your warmth and beauty
Shines through in all you do!

Here is a poem that I think I found on this website. It's a poem to go on a candle for a new mother. {Makes a great baby shower gift}

Here's a candle for you to light,
Once the stork has made its flight
With the flicker of its flame,
Please say a prayer in the baby's name

I just wished that I could remember the author's name...sorry.

Here are just a couple more poems for candles:

~Wedding Day Candle Poem~

I give you this candle on your wedding day
it will help you two see your way.
With each day as it comes anew,
You will always cherish your wedding night
but through the years you may fuss and fight
If a fuss should ever start,
light this candle to warm your hearts.
With a warm heart, I'm sorry is easy to say.
Kiss and make up like it's your wedding day.

~Sympathy Candle Poem~

This beautiful candle shining so bright,
in times of sorrow is hard to see the light,
With each day as it comes anew,
light a new flame and I will be there with you.
Today this candle is full of sorrow
but is a reminder that there are more tomorrows.
As times passes you will see,
this candle will turn into joy for thee

My mind doesn't seems to be working well tonight because I can't remember the author of these poems either. They was given to me by another person. I don't know if you would think they was right for a candle but since they are different. I thought I would pass them along just the same.

How about Birthdays and Mother's Day? Thanks and Happy Crafting!

Your love burns brightly mother
With such a special light
Just like a burning candle
That casts away the night
I seems that warmth and goodness
In your veins does flow
Dear mother don't you realize
You're such a joy to know!

These candle poems are great. You do wonderful work. Is there an Easter Blessing poem for a votive candle?

Here are ones that I have collected. Most of them are probably from this board. Sorry, I have no names on them.

No Occasion Candle (Note: Yvonne originally called this a Friendship Candle)

This fragrant little candle
is sent to you today
There's no particular reason
just a chance for me to say...
Our days are oh, so busy,
a thousand things to do.
There never seems to be the extra time
for friends like me and you.
So when you light this candle
and watch its flame burn bright,
Know you're in my thoughts and prayers
each and every night.

No Occasion Candle
Wax to melt away your cares
A Wick to light up your day
Color to reflect
on all we share
Fragrance of memories
along the way

No Occasion Candle
Candles glowing in the night
Reflections about the room
Relax and enjoy this beautiful sight
As a gift from me to you .

Christmas Candle
Here's a Christmas Candle
A gift for your family to share,
Let it brighten up your season
And spread gladness in the air.
It is hoped that you'll enjoy
A special season full of fun.
And love will burn more brightly
When your holiday is done.

Holiday Candle
This holiday candle comes
to you from a friend.
So on Christmas Eve
burn it down to the end.
To remind you of friendship,
laughter and cheer.
Not just on Christmas
but throughout the New Year.

Valentine's Candle
I may not always have the words,
To express my love for you,
But as you enjoy this candle's glow,
Please know that it is true.

Each time you light this candle,
And its fragrance fills the air,
I hope it will remind you of,
How very much I care!

A candle's but a simple thing
It starts with just a bit of string
Yet dipped and dipped with patient hand
it gathers wax right up the strand
Until, complete with snowy white
it gives at last a lovely light
Life is so like that bit of string
each deed we do, a simple thing
Yet day by day if on life's strand
we work with patient heart and hand
It gathers joy, makes dark days bright
and gives at last a lovely light

Sister
My sister, my friend, my confidant
Someone true right from the start
I send to you this candle
To say you're forever in my heart

Love
Light of my life, I give to you
A flame to burn, both bright and true
And though the wick will soon burn low
My love for you will always glow

No Occasion
Take a match and strike it
Light the wick and see
The flame that glows so brightly
Symbolizes love to you from me

Here's a gift to light up your day!
A fragrant candle from me.
The color and scent are here to stay
Until the last flicker you see.

Candles glowing in the night
Reflections about the room
Relax and enjoy this beautiful sight
As a gift from me to you

Ladies...this is a good reminder to everyone. Always remember to keep the author's name with their poem when you are putting them in your database or using them. It gives the author credit as to their hard work.
Hugs

[> Re: poems for candles -- Caboobie, 16:30:18 09/22/04 Wed [1]

Thanks Karen. I recognise a couple of these as mine and you know how upsetting it is to spend so many hours at the computer thinking them up and then find them being used without acknowledgement.

I don't mean to sound awful but it does nark me to see that poems are kept but not the authors name even though we all sign the bottom of the poem on here.

Lorraine, please don't take this as a personal assault, but as some of you know I had a 'stand up' argument with someone last christmas when they were trying to pass off some of my poems as their own. I didn't mind the poems being used it was just that the seller of the craft didn't believe that I wrote them as she had 'gotten them from an American site!

If anyone disagrees with my comments, please feel free to e-mail me personally instead of using the site to air your views

[> Re: poems for candles -- Judy R, 02:56:43 09/23/04 Thu [1]

Will the author of the first poem in this post please stand up? I want to use it,and need to know who to give credit to. Hugs Judy R

[> Re: poems for candles -- Caboobie, 03:06:30 09/23/04 Thu [1]

Hi Judy, I've a feeling that I wrote this one, but as we write so many it's difficult to put our hands up without backtracking through lots of archived files and discs.

That's the main reason for asking everyone to try and keep the names with the poems.

I'm off to school now, but if I get the chance I'll check my files tonight. I can't see a problem in using the poem just add -author unknown to me- on the bottom for now.

Just beautiful- have to print these-
thank you.

Archiver's Note: Moving these older posts onto this thread to consolidate them. There are MANY more candle poems in the archives - some written for a specific kind of candle or holiday/occasion. Search for CANDLE AND POEMS to find others.

I can come up with the ideas, but I am word challenged. I cannot create the visions and thoughts that the very talented people on this board can. How about a poem to go with the painted jars with tealite candles that many ladies make? Different poems to go with different occasions or family members, ie: Grandmothers, Friends etc... I did remember reading that someone had decoupaged a poem on a store bought jar candle. I thought to make the handpainted jar candles stand out a poem would be nice to personalize for the recipetent. That would still leave plenty of room for painting as well. Just an idea to consider for the upcoming hibernation season.

Hi Sandy
I hope this helps:
Sue

Jesus is our light
He helps us shine
we keep Him in our hearts
not just at Christmas time
So please take this candle
and keep alive the spark
what starts with a flicker
can brighten up the dark.

Very nice Sue!!! Here's another to share too:

Let the light of Jesus
Set your heart aglow
Let His love burn brightly
Everywhere you go
Eternally His flame glows
When we let Him in
Warming us forever
With goodness from within
