Gun
Strap Feather Vane
by "Crafty"
Crafty, a regular on the THS
Board, saw this in an old movie and the idea behind it is that it shows
which way the wind is blowing. But as her Mom said, "If you can't
tell which way the wind is blowing, you'd better get out of the
woods!" lol So basically it is more decorative than functional.
Supplies:
Approx. 72" leather cord (save small piece for top wrap)
Optional small wood beads
Pkg. natural-looking feathers
Wire, fish line & hot glue |
-
Cut two pieces of leather cord, each approximately
36" long. Fold both in half together and wrap wire around
them about 1 and 1/2 inches down to form a top loop of leather.
Twist the wire in back to hold.
-
Hot glue a piece of leather cord around the wire to
hide it.
-
Braid the four strands, leaving about 3 or 4 inches at
bottom unbraided. Wrap with wire at the end of braiding and
twist wire to hold or tie it off with fishing line. Tie a knot
at the end of each strand. Optional: Slide a small wooden
bead onto each strand before knotting.
-
Hot glue bunches of natural-looking feathers near the
end of braid.
-
Tie a small bunch of feathers together with fishing
line and tie them on with the fishing line above the bottom feathers.
-
A strap on the gun is required. Unhook the end
of strap nearest to the barrel, slide the leather loop on and re-hook
the strap.
-
Add a poem if desired. Print
6-up poem cards here. Fold in half with poem to front.
