Irish
Potatoes
[TextCounter Fatal Error: Could Not Write to File _projects_holidays_st_patrick_irish_potatoes_index.shtml]
Children and adults love Irish Potatoes. Especially if they
find the lucky green potato! Here are three different versions for
presentation. Be sure to save out a portion to mix with green food
coloring and then shape and roll like the others. Sneaky!
The treasure can be gold foil-wrapped chocolate coins or gold dollar
coins. Check with your bank to see if they have any gold dollar
coins.
1) Give an Irish Potato recipe and the
below poem to children. Make it with them and sneak in the green
ones when they are not looking. When the children find a green potato magically mixed in with the
others, have them hunt for a pot of gold (gold foil-wrapped chocolate
coins or gold dollar coins) that the leprechaun should have left!

2) Make up a batch of Irish Potatoes
with a few green ones mixed in and give with the poem. Have them
hunt for the treasure (gold foil-wrapped coins or gold dollar coins).
You can even leave a green and gold glitter trail as a clue.

3) Make up a batch of Irish Potatoes to
leave out at night. The leprechaun will turn a couple of the
potatoes green and leave a treasure of gold
foil-wrapped coins or gold dollar coins in the morning. Sometimes he
leaves a green and gold glitter trail going out the window!
